In the summer of 2024, we started exploring the idea of building a jazz education program hosted at Jazz Central Studios. We wanted to create something that felt grounded in the Twin Cities jazz community, connected to musicians and teachers, and open to people who were looking for a deeper relationship with the music.
By January 2025, we launched our first ensembles. Since then, North Star has continued to grow into a broader community of musicians, instructors, and collaborators.
What started as a few small groups has expanded to include classes, private lessons, jam sessions, clinics, workshops, and special events.
Across everything we offer, we help musicians make space for that creative practice in their lives. Whether someone is joining an ensemble, taking a class, studying privately, attending a clinic, or showing up at a jam session, the goal is the same: to create a place where musicians can keep developing their sound, deepen their relationship with jazz, and stay connected to a community of people who are learning alongside them.
